And in all the tours we found the persons leading them to be warm, extremely pleasant and very well informed which made it a wonderfully educational experience.Įleftheria took us on a lovely food tour of the old town of Chania, and Philipa and Costa led an excellent cooking class in their charming home, complete with sampling various forms of Raki (Tsikouthia) -which took the edge off everything :) Mixali took us on a wine tour outside Rethymno where we also visited Andoni in his generations old olive oil factory (Kanakis Oil Mill), Vincent took us on a tour of the Arcadi monastery (a life-changing moment) as well as the really enjoyable pottery class in Margerites by the gifted Giorgios and his lovely family. We found the tours to be most engaging, interesting and exciting. Those brief moments when we could delve into the history and engage with the people, that gave us a new sense of appreciation for Crete and the Cretan culture. Our schedule was reasonably flexible and allowed us to do our own excursions as well, with ad-hoc visits to un-serviced beaches especially in the Agios Nicolaos area.īut it was the tours that did it for us.
